Reach customers beyond the major gas network.

Projects outside a suitable gas network can assess local energy use, dedicated supply and appropriately specified road-delivered fuels. The available route depends on the product, customer and lawful infrastructure. Off-grid supply is not one interchangeable delivery system. [[ US Environmental Protection Agency, Renewable Natural Gas ](https://www.epa.gov/lmop/renewable-natural-gas); C01] Compare customer distance, road access, storage and unloading requirements for the specific fuel rather than applying pipeline-delivery assumptions.

Use nearby demand where it fits

On-site heat and power may avoid some delivery infrastructure where the customer can use the output. A dedicated local pipeline requires a suitable route, compatible equipment and appropriate safety and commercial arrangements. Assess the useful service and reliability delivered.

Account for road-delivery equipment

Compressed or liquefied biomethane requires suitable processing, storage, loading, transport and receiving equipment. Include energy use, vehicle scheduling, outages and backup. A short road distance does not eliminate those costs.

Treat LPG as a distinct market

BioLPG can be assessed for customers using LPG storage and distribution where the supplied fuel meets the relevant specifications. Verify production availability and equipment compatibility for the actual product. Biomethane is not a direct substitute in an LPG cylinder, and hydrogen requires its own design.

Develop shared logistics around real demand

Several producers or buyers may justify coordinated delivery. Confirm product compatibility, delivery schedules, ownership and liability. Compare a shared service with individual supply, including spare capacity and interruption costs.

Compare at the customer boundary

Record delivered quantity, quality, pressure, reliability and total cost. Include environmental performance across processing and transport. Shelby supports keeping practical off-grid routes within project and policy assessment so a major network connection does not become the only recognised outcome.

Frequently asked questions

Can biomethane use ordinary LPG cylinders?

No. Methane and LPG have different storage and equipment requirements.

Is road delivery always less expensive than a connection?

No. Compare installed, processing and logistics costs for the actual volume and route.

Can direct-use biogas qualify as a useful project outcome?

Yes as a physical energy pathway; any support or certification eligibility must be checked against the applicable scheme.
