Planning green iron or metals production? Start with the supply your process actually needs.
Green-iron, steel and metals developments can require reliable electricity, high-temperature heat, fuels, hydrogen or other reductants depending on the process. The first question is not whether one type of bioenergy is universally suitable. It is what your facility needs by specification, volume, reliability, timing and delivered cost—and which realistic supply pathways merit detailed engineering review.

Three things to check before choosing equipment
Your starting evidence
project technology/process (DRI or other / steelmaking / alumina / mineral processing / other), product/process specification, design throughput when known, H₂ purity/flow and quality where relevant, MW/MWh and temporal profile, heat temperature, commissioning horizon, region, transport/storage needs, emissions criteria. **No H₂ demand from tonnes of iron unless process-specific verified engineering basis is provided.
Useful demand and delivery
Describe actual on-site use or customer requirements, timing and practical transport or connection constraints.
Qualified site review
Confirm equipment suitability, regulatory obligations and the full cost boundary before investing.
The opportunity is in the whole operation
A proposed supplier may look attractive on energy cost alone but fail on consistency, fuel specification or transport. A useful early-stage assessment makes those gaps visible. It can then inform a qualified engineering, procurement or commercial review.
Information to bring to your first review
Use recent bills, measured volumes with units and reference periods, site operating schedules, existing contracts and evidence of quality. Leave unknowns explicit. No equipment output or revenue is inferred from business size.
Frequently asked questions
Is biogas-derived hydrogen automatically suitable for steelmaking?
No; purity, flow, reliability, conversion emissions and economics must be established.
Can bioenergy supply every green-iron project?
No; it may play a site-specific complementary role.
Can we register demand without publishing it?
Yes, a private requirement can be recorded; publication or contact requires separate permission.
