The official consultation question

Q33 · §4.4(d) · paper page 29

How do regional factors influence the development of the renewable gas industry? What opportunities or challenges do you see in regional areas that may affect the development of the renewable gas industry?

Shelby’s response

Regional conditions should shape project location and scale. Concentrated organic feedstocks, existing treatment facilities, nearby customers and agricultural demand for digestate can create opportunities for local production and additional income. Collection distances, seasonal supply, infrastructure access, specialist servicing and workforce accommodation can constrain development.

We recommend supporting modular upgrades and appropriately sized regional plants, with shared logistics, maintenance and infrastructure where these improve economics. Engage farmers, councils, Traditional Owners and residents early, and build local employment and procurement into delivery plans. Regional growth should follow dependable operating businesses and benefits communities can see.
