Which grants and support programmes could apply to your energy project?

Australian businesses can access federal and state programmes supporting bioenergy, biomethane, low-carbon fuels and industrial decarbonisation — including ARENA's Advancing Renewables Program, the Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund, the Cleaner Fuels Program and state schemes such as the NSW Renewable Gas Production Program. Programme status, rounds and eligibility change frequently, so always verify on the official programme page before relying on any listing.

Before you plan around a grant

Grant programmes open, pause and close without much notice, and most require co-contribution, an ABN and a competitive application. Treat every listing here as a starting point for your own verification — not as confirmation that funding is currently open or that your project is eligible. Being listed in a directory is separate from grant eligibility.

Federal programmes relevant to bioenergy

  • ARENA Advancing Renewables Program — supports development, demonstration and pre-commercial deployment of renewable energy, including bioenergy and renewable gas. Official programme page.
  • Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund — up to $1.5 billion across green metals, renewable energy technology manufacturing and low carbon liquid fuels; launched December 2025 with a two-stage EOI process and minimum 1:1 co-contribution. Official programme page.
  • Cleaner Fuels Program — up to $1.1 billion in production-linked incentives for low carbon liquid fuels, delivered by ARENA; programme guidelines were in development at the time of review. Official programme page.
  • Powering the Regions Fund — Industrial Transformation and Safeguard Transformation streams supporting industrial decarbonisation at covered facilities. GrantConnect listing.
  • Guarantee of Origin scheme — the Product Guarantee of Origin (PGO) scheme was expanded to biogas and biomethane in October 2026, letting producers certify emissions credentials; it is a certification framework, not a grant. Clean Energy Regulator.

State programmes to check

  • NSW Renewable Gas Production Program — co-investment for commercial-scale biomethane projects injecting into the NSW gas network, with a minimum 50% co-contribution and a two-stage EOI process; launched March 2026 under the NSW Renewable Fuel Strategy. Verify current round status with the NSW Government before applying.
  • Queensland Bioenergy Fund — matched co-funding of $250,000–$2 million for bioenergy feasibility and technical studies; funded rounds have closed, but future rounds may open under the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan. Monitor the Department of State Development and Infrastructure.
  • Other states run broader clean-energy and industrial decarbonisation programmes that bioenergy projects may fit. Search the national directories below for your state.

How Shelby fits

Shelby does not assess grant eligibility or prepare applications. What we can do is help you organise the evidence a strong application usually needs — measured resource or demand data, a clear project scope, realistic costs and the decision you are trying to make. Start with a private first look, and request follow-up only if you want it.

Frequently asked questions

Are these grants currently open?

Programme status changes frequently. Every programme listed here links to its official page — always verify status, rounds and eligibility there before relying on this page. Shelby reviews this directory periodically but does not track live status.

Can Shelby apply for a grant on my behalf?

No. Shelby helps you organise project evidence and questions. Grant applications, eligibility advice and submission require the programme's own process and, where needed, qualified advisers.

Do I need a finished feasibility study to apply?

Requirements vary by programme. Many competitive programmes expect measured data, co-contribution and a credible project plan — which is why organising your evidence early helps.
