Bioenergy products: from organic resources to commercial opportunities

One resource can support several potential pathways. Find the product, buyer, technology and regional participants that make sense for your site.

Add my Feedstock

Organic feedstocks can become gases, electricity, heat and other useful materials through different technologies. A livestock operation may investigate local heat or electricity from biogas; a food processor may explore biomethane, while another project may focus on recovering carbon dioxide or nutrients. There is no universal best product. The answer depends on feedstock characteristics, technology, operating scale, local demand, transport and the quality requirements of a potential buyer.

Shelby Bioenergy brings these product opportunities into one searchable directory. Explore how each product is made, what it can be used for, which inputs are required and where a candidate project may need engineering or commercial validation. The goal is to move from an initial resource or energy requirement to a structured opportunity and an informed next decision.

Renewable gases and fuels: Biogas is produced by digestion or collected from existing gas sources. Biomethane is upgraded methane-rich gas. BioLNG is biomethane conditioned and liquefied for suitable applications. Biohydrogen is a separate conversion opportunity requiring additional technology and emissions assessment.

Power and thermal energy: Electricity can be generated through suitable biogas CHP or other biomass systems. Useful heat can be the primary product of a boiler or a recovered co-product of CHP, but only where it has a practical application.

Recoverable materials: Biogenic CO₂ can potentially be processed from relevant gas-separation streams; digestate remains after anaerobic digestion; biochar is produced through a separate thermochemical pathway, commonly pyrolysis. Each material requires its own quality, logistics and market assessment.

How to decide what your resource could become

Start by identifying the feedstock and quantity. Compare feasible products rather than adding all theoretical outcomes together. Then review local demand, equipment requirements, offtake, supporting partners and project maturity. A regional hub may combine resources and participants, but physical compatibility and economics still need validation.

From product interest to commercialisation

1. Profile: Tell Shelby about your role, organisation and interests.
2. Opportunity: List a supply resource, buyer requirement, service or project.
3. Pathway: Evaluate a relevant technical or commercial route.
4. Commercialise: Progress a verified project, contract or paid service through appropriate review.

Frequently asked questions

Which output is the most valuable?

It depends on site inputs, output specification, local demand, logistics and costs; gross prices are not project profit.

Can one plant produce all the listed products?

Not necessarily. Some are mutually competing allocations or require separate processes.

Can I list my feedstock privately?

Yes, according to Shelby’s existing privacy and publication controls; public listing requires an explicit choice.

Do I need technical data to start?

Basic resource information enables discovery; engineering and commercial certainty require further evidence.
