Biogenic CO₂: assess recovery opportunities alongside renewable gas
Understand what the product is, where it fits and whether your resource or project could support it.
Add my FeedstockBiogenic carbon dioxide is associated with the carbon cycle of biomass and can form a concentrated stream during some biogas-upgrading configurations. The fact that CO₂ is separated does not mean that it has been captured to a market specification or sold. The investment decision depends on recovery equipment, trace contaminants, processing costs, product quality and a buyer or storage pathway.
State pricing evidence
No verified state product-sale average is available. Source references are context, not product sale prices. Private scenarios remain editable and missing values are not zero.

How biogenic co₂ is produced and used
The raw biogas contains carbon dioxide alongside methane. A suitable upgrading unit separates a CO₂-rich stream; further capture, drying, purification, compression or liquefaction may be necessary for a particular use. A recovered mass estimate and a saleable product estimate must be displayed separately, supported by actual plant design assumptions.
Who this pathway may be relevant to
Biomethane developers; industrial CO₂ buyers; food and beverage suppliers where specifications can be met; industrial gas distributors; regional hubs.
What determines a credible opportunity?
What proportion of CO₂ is recoverable? What impurities are present? Which quality standard applies? Is there a contracted local offtaker and reliable logistics? Shelby helps structure this early evidence, compare alternatives and identify which specialist information is still missing. A preliminary result is a starting point for decisions, not an engineering warranty or offtake agreement.
Biogenic CO₂: grade-specific offtake evidence
State pricing coverage, researched 31 October 2026. The table below reports a related conventional market reference where one was located. No verified state-average Biogenic CO₂ sales price was established for the eight jurisdictions, so never treat the reference as a producer offtake price, a cost forecast, a quotation, or a prefilled market price.
No state-average bulk food-/industrial-grade BioCO₂ transaction price was verified. Request delivery point, purity, grade, volume, conditioning, liquefaction, and buyer specification before modelling revenue.

Interpretation: No comparable statewide bulk biogenic CO₂ customer or producer price average was verified. Cylinder refill quotes, historical non-food-grade studies and liquefaction costs must not become bioCO₂ selling prices.

Turn this product interest into a project pathway
Start with available resources, services or product demand. Shelby can capture the opportunity, produce an indicative assessment where a tested pathway exists, and help identify possible project participants. Buyer specification, logistics, regulatory requirements and engineering validation remain essential before a commercial commitment.
Frequently asked questions
Is biogenic CO₂ automatically food grade?
No. Food or industrial applications require testing, purification and compliance with product-specific standards.
Can I add the CO₂ revenue to biomethane revenue?
Only for a configuration that actually captures saleable CO₂ and uses documented, non-overlapping assumptions.
Does separating CO₂ prove carbon removal?
No. Utilisation, storage permanence, leakage and full lifecycle accounting determine relevant emissions claims.
